COURSE COST: The cost of this Training and Assessment Package is; one hundred fifty US Dollars (USD 150).
COURSE SCOPE: This Refresher Course has been designed, developed and is delivered in line with the requirements of IMO Model Course 1.13 as a theory only course with 100% online course registration, payment and course completion from anywhere in the world where internet access is available on a 24/7 basis to seafarers who need to update/re-validate their current STCW Basic Safety Training in line with the requirements of STCW 2010 Manila amendments. This theory based eLearning Refresher Course is available to those seafarers who have participated in on board safety and emergency exercises and drills on a regular basis over the past 5 years. This Refresher Course is intended to provide the knowledge required for seafarers to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for familiarisation, basic safety training and instruction in Elementary First Aid, in accordance with Regulation VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1 Table A-VI/1-3 of the STCW Code as amended.
COURSE OBJECTIVE: Those who successfully complete this course should be able to meet the minimum standards of competence in Elementary First Aid and learners should be competent to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or medical emergency until the arrival of a person with medical first aid skills or the person in charge of medical care on board. This knowledge shall include, but is not limited to:
Taking immediate action upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency;
Knowledge, understanding and proficiency of basic first aid;
Assess the needs of the causality and threats to own safety;
Correctly position causality;
Apply resuscitation techniques;
Apply appropriate measures of basic shock management;
Apply appropriate measures to broken bones;
Apply appropriate measures in the event of burns and scalds;
Improvise bandages and use materials in emergency kit.
COURSE ENTRY STANDARDS: This course is principally intended as basic safety training: Learners completing this course as theory only, via eLearning as a Refresher Course must hold a current Elementary First Aid certificate and must have participated in on board safety and emergency exercises and drills on a regular basis over the past 5 years.
COURSE STANDARDS AND ACCREDITATION: This course meets the requirements of Statutory, Flag Administration accredited SEATAG Training Package – Category A and STCW Regulation VI/1 and Code Section A-VI/1 Table A-VI/1-3 of the STCW Code as amended. This course has been approved and accredited by the Singapore Flag Administration – MPA.
COURSE CERTIFICATION: On successful completion of this eLearning course and lodgement of the course eFeedback Form, learners may print a Certificate of Completion. A soft copy of the Flag Administration accredited Certificate of Proficiency will be emailed to the learner within 5 working days of successful completion of this eLearning course. If chosen within the course registration process, a hard copy of the Flag Administration accredited Certificate of Proficiency will be sent via airbag to the address as stated on the course registration form within 10 working days of successful completion of this eLearning course. The Certificate of Proficiency is valid for a period of five (5) years from the date of issue.
COURSE DELIVERY: The outcome of this course may be achieved by-way-of computer based online eLearning.
COURSE DELIVERY TIME: This course is based on the IMO Model Course 1.13 with delivery time recommendation for face-to-face delivery time of 15 hours. Actual course delivery time via online eLearning for this theory only course will depend on the learner’s input and cannot be definitely defined. However, industry standards indicate eLearning delivery of this type of course may reduce delivery time by approximately 60 to 80%.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Seafarers or other shipboard personnel wishing to re-validate their current certificate in line with STCW 2010 Manila Amendments to maintain the minimum standards of competence in Basic Safety Training.
NOTE: Under the new STCW 2010 regulations, updated proficiency training for the above STCW course must be undertaken every five years. Seafarers re-validating their Certificate of Competency after 1 January 2017 will be required to submit documentary evidence of having completed flag approved updated proficiency training within the last five years. This eLearning course can be utilised to update seafarers’ current certification without completing the practical component of this course if; the seafarer’s current certificate has not expired (you will be required to upload a copy of your current certificate) and they have participated in on board safety and emergency exercises and drills on a regular basis over the past 5 years.
